I want you to know that there will be a blog post with the transcript to this video (I pre-wrote it, Facebook live video is embedded at the bottom), that will include the links I’m talking about in the (possibly likely) event that this video gets taken down and I get banned again. Follow me @TheFriskyFairy on Twitter if that happens. I also want to let you know that this post will contain comments with lots of violence. Please be prepared. So for those of you who didn’t know, I spent a lovely weekend with my partner and Romulus, Prince of Cats. We spent timeRead More →

This post is going to be very long, and very heavy. It is going to cover some very intense material. I strongly encourage you to read through to the end. <3 Approximately 20-25% of homeless Americans have mental illness. Approximately 600,000 people are homeless (564708 on a specific night in January 2015). That means that an estimated 150,000 people are homeless and with a mental illness. The statistics on how many people are homeless because of their mental illness have not (at least that I could find) been measured, however mental illness was listed as one of the top three reasons for homelessness in 2008. If you haven’tRead More →

I moved to a new apartment in November, and the apartment has a fancy gym! It’s not a huge thing, A couple of ellipticals, treadmills, a stair climber, and the weight machines with the cables. Those are where I spend most of my time (When I’m not doing squats that is). Anyone who follows my social media accounts will have noticed my efforts at the gym.   The difference is staggering for me. I see it in my face, in my body. I see it in the way I move, and the way my body feels when I’m sitting on the floor. Working out has become myRead More →

For a long time, people have joked that I’m a succubus. After all, when I have sex, when I get off, the world stops for me. I connect to the universe in a way that fills me with power. Power that rolls up my arms and into my soul. It’s the power that crackles between two people before their lips touch. It’s the desperate need and want of the first thrust. It’s the power that leaves me feeling energized and my partners feeling exhausted. That’s why we say that I’m a succubus. I use that power to charge my charisma, and that’s what draws inRead More →

I have one lung. I live with mental illness. I do this amazing Frisky Fairy stuff. I am trying to go back to school. I’m busy. Parts of my life need me to consistently manage my spoons in order to continue doing the things I love. What are spoons, you ask? Well if you haven’t read the original post yet, do so now. I talk about spoons a lot when I’m talking about my life and so, the short answer when asking about the Spoon Theory is this: The spoon theory is a model used by some disabled people and people with chronic illness toRead More →

I spend a few days playing with my shiny new Hitachi and come back to utter chaos in the form of a group of teenagers who apparently did some magical shit with latex, which was nearly cancelled out by the SCOTUS ruling on same sex marriage. Here’s the only thing I’m going to say on the Same-Sex marriage ruling: #lovewins but remember how many we lost to get here, and don’t forget how much more progress is left to go. — Rebecca Hiles (@TheFriskyFairy) June 26, 2015   If you haven’t heard about the condom thing, here’s a basic rundown. A group of teens inRead More →

I have written about my cancer journey before. I’ve mentioned my care team, who make my life easier, and their credentials. I’ve written about how to interact with cancer patients. I’ve even spoken on the topic for a third time at Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit. I’ve tried to be kind and jovial, and reasonable about the entire thing. I’ve tried to be educational. I’ve tried to be happy just to be alive. I just can’t anymore. I can’t advocate for patient rights, I can’t advocate for science without a little venom. Coming off a post raging against alternative medicine, I can’t be quiet about it anymore.Read More →

EDIT: I will no longer be replying to comments. Provided they are not death threats, rape threats, or threats against me or mine I will still approve them through. However, I have better things to do. Like my partners. Xoxo   You know… I’ve got a pretty solid soapbox here. Because of that, I get to talk about issues that I feel really strongly about. Tonight, I’m going to talk about issues that I feel really fucking strongly about. Maybe it’s because I just saw Mad Max: Fury Road and Imperator Furiosa is basically everything I want to be as a person. Maybe it’s because IRead More →

Amid the coverage of the #baltimoreuprising, I had a really strange thing happen to me. I spent a lot of my time screaming at talking to white people when the news of the riots broke. Much of my conversation was spent defending the rioters, and their reaction to the consistent systemic oppression that people of color are facing across the country. Most of the people in the conversation are white. All of the people arguing against me are white. In fact, in the entire 48 hours and well over 100 FB notifications I got on the topic, not once did I see a person of colorRead More →

**UPDATE- 4/10 22:21 EST** I mentioned in this post that it was hacked, that was incorrect of me. The person who created the list simply exploited Fetlife’s code to release information. This information (while not directly outing people) could be used to out people. If you’re concerned, I strongly suggest removing all identifying photos. **In addition, Fetlife has been terrible at protecting their communities (specifically those who are sexually assaulted). Please don’t take my silence as an indication that these weren’t issues before, I simply haven’t had the chance to write about them, whereas this was slightly more time sensitive. ***Finally, it appears that for whatever reasonRead More →
